Attn: ALL ARTISTS—It is important to correctly size images for submission to magazines, printers, curators, reporters, etc. A good starting point is to have images preformatted for submitting for various uses.
If you are going to send your images to be printed in anything from magazines to newspapers to business cards, please keep in mind the follow guidelines:
Preferred Image Size & Resolution:
Larger than an 8”x10” at 300DPI saved as a Tiff file rather than a Jpeg for maximum quality and use of the image.
Acceptable Image Size & Resolution:
No smaller than a 5”x7” at 300DPI saved as a Tiff or Jpeg at maximum compression.
*Note you can’t open up Photoshop and just resize a smaller image to 300DPI without affecting quality. Test your quality by zooming into the image to about 400% and see how blurry or clear the image is.
